  • Mixed vegetables (carrot, beans, peas, potato) - 200 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Tomato - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Bisi Bele Bath powder - 2 tablespoons
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Ghee (clarified butter) - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Curry leaves - 8-10 leaves
  • Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander leaves - for garnish
  • Water - 4 cups

Steps

  1. Rinse the rice and toor dal together under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak them in enough water for 20 minutes.
  2. In a large pot, heat ghee over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add curry leaves and chopped onions to the pot, sauté until the onions turn translucent.
  4. Stir in the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften.
  5. Add the mixed vegetables to the pot and sauté for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Drain the soaked rice and dal, then add them to the pot along with turmeric powder and Bisi Bele Bath powder, mixing everything well.
  7. Pour in 4 cups of water and add salt to taste. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  8. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 25 minutes, or until the rice and dal are cooked and soft.
  9. Turn off the heat and let it sit covered for an additional 5 minutes.
  10. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves before serving hot.
