Ingredients

  • Rice flour - 200 grams
  • Grated fresh coconut - 100 grams
  • Water - 150 ml
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cardamom powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Sugar - 1 tablespoon (optional)
  • Banana - 1, for serving

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine rice flour, salt, and cardamom powder. Mix well.
  2. Gradually add water to the rice flour mixture, mixing with your fingers until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs. The mixture should hold together when pressed.
  3. In a puttu maker or a steaming basket, layer the rice flour mixture with grated coconut, starting and ending with coconut.
  4. Fill the base of the puttu maker with water and place it on the stove. Once the water starts boiling, place the puttu maker on top and steam for about 10-15 minutes.
  5. Once cooked, remove the puttu maker from heat. Gently tap it to release the puttu onto a plate.
  6. Serve hot with banana on the side and, if desired, sprinkle some sugar on top.
