  • Chana dal (split chickpeas) - 1 tablespoon
  • Urad dal (split black gram) - 1 tablespoon
  • Curry leaves - 10 leaves
  • Dried red chilies - 2
  • Peanuts - 2 tablespoons
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - to taste
  • Jaggery - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander leaves (for garnish) - a handful

Steps

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add chana dal, urad dal, and peanuts to the pan. Sauté until the dal turns golden brown.
  3. Add dried red chilies and curry leaves. Sauté for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Stir in tamarind paste, turmeric powder, jaggery, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add the cooked rice to the pan, mixing thoroughly to coat the rice with the spice mixture.
  6. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  7. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves before serving.
