Ingredients

  • Fish (preferably Kingfish) - 300 grams
  • Coconut oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Tomato - 1 medium, chopped
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Coconut milk - 200 ml
  • Tamarind pulp - 1 tablespoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish
  • Water - 100 ml

Steps

  1. Heat coconut oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until it turns golden brown.
  2. Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the chopped tomato and cook until it softens and blends into the mixture.
  4. Sprinkle in the turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Pour in the coconut milk and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  6. Add the tamarind pulp and stir to combine. Adjust the consistency by adding 100 ml of water if necessary.
  7. Once the gravy is simmering, gently add the fish pieces and cook for about 8-10 minutes until the fish is cooked through.
  8. Sprinkle garam masala over the curry and give it a gentle stir.
  9. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving. Serve hot with steamed rice or chapati.
