Ingredients

  • Fresh grated coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Green chilies - 2-3 (adjust to taste)
  • Coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Ginger - 1/2 inch piece
  • Tamarind pulp - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - 1 teaspoon (for tempering)
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Asafoetida - a pinch

Steps

  1. In a blender, combine the grated coconut, green chilies, coriander leaves, ginger, tamarind pulp, and salt. Blend until smooth, adding a little water if necessary to reach desired consistency.
  2. In a small pan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add a pinch of asafoetida to the oil, and then pour the tempering over the blended chutney.
  4. Mix well and adjust salt if needed. Serve fresh with idlis or dosas.
