Ingredients

  • Bitter gourd (karela) - 200 grams
  • Tomato - 1 medium
  • Cucumber - 1 medium
  • Red onion - 1 small
  • Fresh coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Chaat masala - 1 teaspoon

Steps

  1. Wash the bitter gourd thoroughly and slice it thinly, removing the seeds if desired.
  2. Sprinkle a pinch of salt over the sliced bitter gourd and let it sit for 10 minutes to reduce bitterness.
  3. In the meantime, chop the tomato, cucumber, and red onion into small pieces.
  4. After 10 minutes, rinse the bitter gourd slices under cold water to remove excess salt and bitterness, then drain well.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained bitter gourd, chopped tomato, cucumber, and red onion.
  6. Add chopped coriander leaves, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, black pepper, and chaat masala to the bowl.
  7. Toss everything together gently until well mixed. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
  8. Serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator for 10 minutes before serving for a cooler taste.
