Ingredients
- Yogurt - 200 grams
- Gram flour (besan) - 50 grams
- Water - 500 ml
- Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Curry leaves - 8-10 leaves
- Ginger - 1 inch, grated
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Salt - to taste
- Cilantro - for garnish
- Cooked rice - 200 grams
- Whole wheat flour - 150 grams
- Oil - 2 tablespoons
Steps
- In a bowl, whisk the yogurt until smooth. Add gram flour, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well, adding water gradually to form a smooth batter.
- In a pot, heat 1 tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds, allowing them to splutter.
- Add grated ginger, minced garlic, and curry leaves to the pot. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Pour the yogurt and gram flour mixture into the pot, stirring continuously to prevent lumps. Cook on low heat for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until the kadhi thickens.
- Meanwhile, prepare the roti. In a bowl, mix whole wheat flour with water and a pinch of salt to form a soft dough. Divide into two balls and roll them into flat discs.
- Heat a tawa or skillet over medium heat. Cook each roti for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown, brushing with a little oil if desired.
- Serve the kadhi hot, garnished with chopped cilantro, alongside cooked rice and freshly made roti.
