Ingredients

  • Plain yogurt - 200 grams
  • Besan (gram flour) - 2 tablespoons
  • Water - 500 ml
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Ginger paste - 1 teaspoon
  • Green chili - 1, slit
  • Curry leaves - 8-10 leaves
  • Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh coriander - for garnish

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the plain yogurt, besan, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt until smooth.
  2. Gradually add water to the mixture while continuously whisking to prevent lumps.
  3. In a pot, heat oil over medium heat and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Allow them to splutter.
  4. Add the ginger paste, slit green chili, and curry leaves. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  5. Pour the yogurt-besan mixture into the pot and stir well. Bring it to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low.
  6. Simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the soup thickens slightly.
  7. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Remove from heat.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with fresh coriander.
