Ingredients
- Yogurt - 200 grams
- Chickpea flour (besan) - 100 grams
- Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Green chili - 1, finely chopped
- Ginger - 1-inch piece, grated
- Curry leaves - 8-10 leaves
- Asafoetida (hing) - a pinch
- Salt - to taste
- Water - 800 ml
- Oil - 1 tablespoon
- Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish
Steps
- In a bowl, whisk the yogurt until smooth and add 600 ml of water, mixing well to create a uniform mixture.
- In a pot, heat 1 tablespoon of oil over medium heat and add mustard seeds. Once they start to crackle, add cumin seeds, curry leaves, green chili, ginger, and a pinch of asafoetida; sauté for 1-2 minutes.
- Add the yogurt mixture to the pot and bring it to a gentle simmer, stirring continuously to prevent curdling.
- In a separate bowl, combine chickpea flour, turmeric powder, and salt. Gradually add water (about 200 ml) to make a smooth batter.
- Once the yogurt mixture is simmering, drop spoonfuls of the chickpea batter into the pot. Cook for about 15-20 minutes on low heat, allowing the dhoklis to cook through.
- Check for seasoning and adjust salt as needed. Once the dhoklis are cooked and the curry is thickened, remove from heat.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
