Ingredients

  • Yogurt - 150 grams
  • Besan (chickpea flour) - 2 tablespoons
  • Water - 500 ml
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Curry leaves - 6-8 leaves
  • Ginger - 1 inch, grated
  • Salt - to taste
  • Cilantro (coriander leaves) - for garnish
  • Cooked rice - 100 grams

Steps

  1. In a bowl, whisk the yogurt and besan together until smooth, then gradually add 500 ml of water, mixing well to avoid lumps.
  2. In a pot, heat 1 tablespoon of oil over medium heat and add cumin seeds and mustard seeds; let them splutter.
  3. Add the grated ginger, curry leaves, turmeric powder, and red chili powder, and sauté for a minute until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the yogurt-besan mixture, stir continuously, and bring it to a gentle boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add salt to taste and adjust the consistency by adding more water if needed.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro, alongside cooked rice.
