- Ajwain (carom seeds) - 1/2 teaspoon
- Oil (for kneading and cooking) - 1 tablespoon
- Chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Fresh coriander (for garnish) - a handful
Steps
- In a large bowl, combine whole wheat flour, salt, cumin powder, and ajwain.
- Gradually add water and knead the mixture into a soft dough. Add 1 tablespoon of oil while kneading.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- Divide the dough into 2 equal balls and roll each ball into a flat circle, about 6-7 inches in diameter.
- Sprinkle chili powder on top of one side of each roti for added flavor.
- Heat a kadai or heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat until hot.
- Place one roti on the kadai, chili powder side up, and cook for about 2 minutes or until bubbles form.
- Flip the roti and cook the other side for another 2 minutes, pressing gently with a spatula.
- Optional: For a tandoori effect, hold the roti with tongs and place it directly over the flame for a few seconds until charred.
- Remove the roti from the heat, and garnish with fresh coriander before serving.
