Ingredients

  • Prawns (deveined) - 300 grams
  • Onion (finely chopped) - 1 medium
  • Tomato (pureed) - 1 medium
  • Green bell pepper (sliced) - 1 medium
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Fresh cilantro (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Oil (vegetable or coconut) - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - to taste

Steps

  1. Heat the oil in a kadai or wok over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  3. Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the raw smell disappears.
  4. Add the pureed tomato and cook until the oil separates from the mixture, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Mix in the coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for 2 minutes.
  6. Add the sliced green bell pepper and cook for another 3-4 minutes, until they are slightly tender.
  7. Add the prawns to the kadai and stir well. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the prawns turn pink and are cooked through.
  8. Sprinkle garam masala and lemon juice over the prawns, and mix well.
  9. Remove from heat and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
