Ingredients

  • Prawns - 300 grams, deveined

  • Ginger - 1 inch, grated
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Green chilies - 2, slit
  • Bell pepper - 1 medium, diced
  • Kadai masala - 2 teaspoons (or a mix of coriander powder, cumin powder, and garam masala)
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cilantro - a handful, chopped (for garnish)
  • Cooking oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - to taste

Steps

  1. Heat the cooking oil in a kadai or wok over medium heat.
  2. Add the finely chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
  3. Stir in the grated ginger, minced garlic, and slit green chilies; cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften and the oil starts to separate.
  5. Sprinkle in the turmeric powder, red chili powder, and kadai masala; mix well and cook for another 2 minutes.
  6. Add the diced bell pepper and sauté for 2-3 minutes until slightly tender.
  7. Add the deveined prawns and salt; stir well to coat the prawns in the masala.
  8. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the prawns are pink and cooked through.
  9. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot with naan or steamed rice.
