- Mutton (bone-in, cut into pieces) - 400 grams
- Onion (finely chopped) - 1 medium (150 grams)
- Tomato (pureed) - 1 medium (100 grams)
- Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
- Green bell pepper (diced) - 1 medium (100 grams)
- Red bell pepper (diced) - 1 medium (100 grams)
- Kadai masala (or garam masala) - 2 teaspoons
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Fresh coriander leaves (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
- Cooking oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - to taste
- Water - 1 cup
Steps
- Heat oil in a kadai or deep pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for 1-2 minutes until the raw smell disappears.
- Add the mutton pieces and sear them until they are browned on all sides.
- Mix in the turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook for another 2 minutes.
- Pour in the tomato puree and cook until the oil starts to separate from the mixture, about 5 minutes.
- Add the diced green and red bell peppers and mix well.
- Pour in the water, cover, and let it simmer on low heat for 30 minutes or until the mutton is tender and cooked through.
- Once done, sprinkle the kadai masala and chopped coriander leaves on top. Stir well and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
- Serve hot with naan or rice.
