Ingredients

  • Lamb shoulder - 400 grams, cubed
  • Yogurt - 150 grams
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 2 tablespoons
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Tomatoes - 2 medium, pureed
  • Capsicum (bell pepper) - 1 medium, diced
  • Green chilies - 2, slit
  • Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish

Steps

  1. In a bowl, mix the yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, garam masala, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, salt, and lemon juice to create a marinade.
  2. Add the cubed lamb to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a kadai or deep pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Stir in the pureed tomatoes and cook until the oil separates from the mixture, approximately 5-7 minutes.
  5. Add the marinated lamb to the onion-tomato mixture and cook on medium-high heat until the lamb is browned.
  6. Pour in 1 cup of water, cover, and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes until the lamb is tender.
  7. In a separate pan, heat the remaining tablespoon of oil and sauté the diced capsicum and slit green chilies for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Add the sautéed capsicum to the lamb curry and mix well. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  9. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with naan or rice.
