Ingredients

  • Chickpeas - 200 grams (soaked overnight and boiled)
  • Onion - 1 medium (finely chopped)
  • Tomato - 1 medium (pureed)
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon (grated)
  • Garlic - 1 teaspoon (minced)
  • Green chili - 1 (slit)
  • Capsicum (Bell Pepper) - 1/2 medium (finely chopped)
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish

Steps

  1. Heat oil in a kadai or deep pan over medium heat.
  2. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  4. Stir in the grated ginger, minced garlic, and slit green chili; cook for another minute.
  5. Add the chopped capsicum and sauté for 2-3 minutes until it softens.
  6. Mix in the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates from the mixture.
  7. Add coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt; mix well.
  8. Incorporate the boiled chickpeas, stir to coat them in the spices, and add a little water if needed for desired consistency.
  9. Cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  10. Finish with garam masala and stir well.
  11. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
