Ingredients

  • Jowar flour - 1 cup (150g)
  • Warm water - 1/2 cup (120ml)
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Ghee or oil - for cooking

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the jowar flour and salt.
  2. Gradually add warm water to the flour mixture, kneading it into a soft and pliable dough.
  3. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and shape them into balls.
  5. On a clean, flat surface, use a rolling pin to roll each ball into a flat disc about 6 inches in diameter. If the dough sticks, dust with a little extra jowar flour.
  6. Heat a tava or non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  7. Once hot, place the rolled roti on the tava and cook for about 1-2 minutes until small bubbles appear.
  8. Flip the roti and cook for another minute, then use a spatula to gently press down on the edges to help it puff up.
  9. Remove the roti from the tava and brush with ghee or oil, if desired.
  10. Repeat the process for the remaining dough balls and serve warm with your favorite curry or chutney.
