Ingredients

  • Fish fillets (preferably pomfret or tilapia) - 200 grams
  • Whole wheat flour - 100 grams
  • Besan (gram flour) - 30 grams
  • Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Ginger paste - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic paste - 1 teaspoon
  • Green chilies - 1, finely chopped
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Water - 500 ml

Steps

  1. Marinate the fish fillets with turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, salt, lemon juice, ginger paste, and garlic paste. Let it sit for 15 minutes.
  2. In a bowl, mix whole wheat flour, besan, turmeric powder, and salt. Add enough water to knead into a soft dough. Cover and set aside for 10 minutes.
  3. Roll the dough into small balls and then flatten them into discs (dhoklis). Set aside.
  4. Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Add chopped green chilies and sauté for a minute.
  5. Add water to the pan and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, gently add the marinated fish fillets and cook for about 5 minutes.
  6. Carefully add the dhoklis to the boiling broth, cover, and cook for an additional 10-12 minutes until the dhoklis are cooked through.
  7. Once cooked, sprinkle fresh coriander leaves on top and serve hot.
