Ingredients

  • Octopus - 500 grams
  • Lemon juice - 30 ml
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Fresh mint leaves - 1/4 cup
  • Fresh coriander leaves - 1/4 cup
  • Green chili - 1, chopped
  • Water - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. Clean the octopus thoroughly under cold water and remove the beak and ink sac if needed.
  2. In a bowl, combine lemon juice, olive oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and black pepper to create a marinade.
  3. Add the cleaned octopus to the marinade, ensuring it is well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate.
  4. While the octopus is marinating, prepare the mint-coriander chutney by blending fresh mint leaves, coriander leaves, chopped green chili, and water until smooth. Adjust salt to taste.
  5. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
  6. Remove the octopus from the marinade and shake off any excess. Grill the octopus for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until charred and tender.
  7. Once cooked, remove the octopus from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
  8. Serve the grilled octopus hot with the mint-coriander chutney on the side.
