Ingredients

  • fish fillets (preferably pomfret or mackerel) - 300 grams
  • lime juice - 1 tablespoon
  • ginger-garlic paste - 1 teaspoon
  • red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • salt - to taste
  • fresh cilantro (coriander leaves) - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • bread crumbs - 1/2 cup
  • egg - 1, beaten
  • burger buns - 2
  • coconut chutney - 4 tablespoons
  • sliced cucumber - 1/2
  • sliced onion - 1 small
  • lettuce leaves - 2

Steps

  1. In a bowl, marinate the fish fillets with lime juice, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and salt. Let it sit for 15 minutes.
  2. After marination, steam the fish for about 5-7 minutes until cooked through. Allow it to cool slightly before flaking it into a bowl.
  3. Add the chopped cilantro, bread crumbs, and beaten egg to the flaked fish. Mix well to form a mixture that can hold together. If too wet, add more bread crumbs.
  4. Shape the mixture into two patties.
  5. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a little oil. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  6. Toast the burger buns lightly in the same skillet until golden.
  7. Assemble the burgers by spreading coconut chutney on the bottom half of the bun, placing a fish patty on top, and adding sliced cucumber, onion, and lettuce. Top with the other half of the bun.
  8. Serve immediately with extra chutney on the side.
