Ingredients

  • Gram flour (besan) - 100 grams
  • Yogurt - 100 grams
  • Water - 300 ml
  • Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine gram flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, turmeric powder, and enough water to form a smooth, pliable dough.
  2. Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each into cylindrical shapes (about 1/2 inch thick).
  3. In a pot, bring water to a boil and add the rolled dumplings. Cook them for about 10-12 minutes until they float to the surface.
  4. Remove the dumplings, let them cool slightly, and then cut them into bite-sized pieces.
  5. In a pan, heat oil over medium heat, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, and let them splutter.
  6. Add the yogurt gradually, stirring continuously to prevent curdling, then add red chili powder, garam masala, and salt to taste.
  7. Add the cut dumplings into the yogurt mixture and simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing them to absorb the flavors.
  8. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
