Ingredients

  • Squid (cleaned and cut into rings) - 300 grams
  • Almond flour - 50 grams
  • Coconut flour - 25 grams
  • Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Egg (beaten) - 1 large
  • Coconut oil (for frying) - 250 ml
  • Lemon wedges (for serving) - 2 wedges
  • Fresh coriander leaves (for garnish) - a handful

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine almond flour, coconut flour, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, salt, and black pepper to create the seasoning mix.
  2. In another bowl, beat the egg until smooth.
  3. Dip each squid ring into the beaten egg, allowing excess to drip off, then coat it thoroughly with the flour mixture.
  4. Heat coconut oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat until hot.
  5. Carefully add the coated squid rings to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
  6. Fry the squid for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally for even cooking.
  7. Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried calamari and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with fresh coriander leaves and lemon wedges on the side.
