Ingredients

  • Fish fillet (cod or any white fish) - 200 grams
  • Water - 500 ml
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
  • Garlic - 1 tablespoon, minced
  • Tomato - 1 medium, chopped
  • Green chili - 1, slit
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves - a handful, chopped
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Oil - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Heat the oil in a pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add the chopped onion and sauté until it turns golden brown.
  3. Stir in the grated ginger, minced garlic, and slit green chili. Cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Add the chopped tomato and cook until it softens, about 5 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle in the coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Stir well to combine.
  6. Pour in the water and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  7. Add the fish fillet to the pot and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily.
  8. Stir in the garam masala and lemon juice. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
  9. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
