Ingredients

  • Fish fillets (e.g., cod or tilapia) - 250 grams
  • Besan (gram flour) - 100 grams
  • Rice flour - 50 grams
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Water - as needed
  • Bread buns - 2
  • Lettuce leaves - 2
  • Sliced tomatoes - 1
  • Sliced onions - 1 small
  • Green chutney - for serving
  • Oil - for frying

Steps

  1. In a bowl, mix besan, rice flour, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, lemon juice, and salt to create a thick batter. Gradually add water until the batter coats the back of a spoon.
  2. Pat the fish fillets dry and dip each one into the batter, ensuring they are well-coated.
  3. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Carefully place the battered fish fillets in the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes on each side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. Toast the bread buns lightly on the same pan or a griddle until golden.
  5. Assemble the burger by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by the fried fish fillet, sliced tomatoes, and onions. Add a generous dollop of green chutney, then top with the other half of the bun.
  6. Serve immediately with extra chutney on the side.
