Ingredients

  • Fish fillets (such as basa or tilapia) - 300 grams
  • Gram flour (besan) - 100 grams
  • Rice flour - 50 grams
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Water - as needed
  • Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish
  • Oil (for frying) - 200 ml

Steps

  1. Clean and pat dry the fish fillets. Cut them into pieces if desired.
  2. In a bowl, mix gram flour, rice flour, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, lemon juice, and salt.
  3. Add water gradually to the mixture to form a smooth, thick batter.
  4. Coat each piece of fish with the batter, ensuring it is well-covered.
  5. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  6. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the coated fish pieces into the oil.
  7. Fry the fish for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove the fish from the oil and place it on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  9. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with lemon wedges and green chutney.
