Ingredients

  • Chicken thighs - 400 grams, boneless and skinless
  • Yogurt - 120 grams
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Cooking oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Onion - 1 medium, thinly sliced
  • Green chilies - 2, slit
  • Water - 100 ml

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, cumin powder, coriander powder, lemon juice, and salt. Mix well to form a marinade.
  2. Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (or overnight for best results).
  3. Heat oil in a heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  4. Add the marinated chicken to the pan along with the slit green chilies. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until the chicken is browned.
  5. Pour in the water, cover the pan with a tight lid, and reduce the heat to low. Cook for 25-30 minutes, allowing the chicken to steam in its juices.
  6. Once cooked, uncover and sprinkle chopped cilantro on top. Serve hot with naan or rice.
