Ingredients

  • Potatoes - 300 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
  • Garlic - 1 tablespoon, minced
  • Green chilies - 1, finely chopped
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Bread crumbs - 1/4 cup
  • Oil - for shallow frying
  • Burger buns - 2
  • Lettuce leaves - 2
  • Tomato - 1, sliced
  • Onion - 1 small, sliced
  • Mint chutney - 2 tablespoons
  • Yogurt - 2 tablespoons (optional)

Steps

  1. Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and let them cool.
  2. Once the potatoes are cool, peel and mash them in a bowl.
  3. Add chopped onion, ginger, garlic, green chilies, cilantro, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt to the mashed potatoes. Mix well until combined.
  4. Form the mixture into two equal-sized patties. Coat each patty with bread crumbs for added texture.
  5. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Shallow fry the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  6. While the patties are frying, prepare the burger buns by lightly toasting them in another pan or oven.
  7. To assemble the burgers, place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by a potato patty, sliced tomato, onion, and a dollop of mint chutney. If desired, add yogurt on top.
  8. Cover with the top half of the bun and serve hot with your choice of side.
