  • Oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Vegetable toppings (bell peppers, onions, tomatoes) - 1 cup (chopped)
  • Vegan cheese - 1/2 cup (optional)
  • Pizza sauce - 1/4 cup
  • Coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons (chopped)
  • Chili flakes - 1 teaspoon (optional)

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine besan, semolina, baking soda, turmeric powder, and salt.
  2. Gradually add water while whisking the mixture to form a smooth batter. Let it rest for 10 minutes.
  3. Grease a steaming tray or a round pizza pan with oil.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared tray or pan, spreading it evenly.
  5. Steam the batter in a steamer or large pot with water for about 15-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Once steamed, let the dhokla cool slightly before removing it from the tray.
  7. Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F).
  8. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the surface of the cooled dhokla.
  9. Top with chopped vegetables and vegan cheese, if using.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes until the toppings are heated through and the cheese is melted.
  11. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and chili flakes before serving.
