Ingredients

  • Besan (chickpea flour) - 100 grams
  • Curd (yogurt) - 50 grams
  • Water - 100 ml
  • Baking soda - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Green chili (finely chopped) - 1
  • Ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander leaves (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Sesame seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Coconut (grated, unsweetened) - 2 tablespoons
  • Oil - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine besan, curd, water, baking soda, turmeric powder, green chili, ginger, coriander leaves, and salt. Mix well to form a smooth batter.
  2. Let the batter rest for 10 minutes.
  3. Grease a steaming tray or plate with a little oil. Pour the batter into the tray and spread it evenly.
  4. In a steamer, place the tray and steam for 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  5. Once cooked, let it cool for a few minutes and then cut into bite-sized pieces.
  6. In a small pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add sesame seeds and pour this tempering over the dhokla bites.
  7. Garnish with grated coconut and serve warm or at room temperature.
