Ingredients

  • Black urad dal - 100 grams
  • Red kidney beans - 50 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Tomato - 1 medium, pureed
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Green chili - 1, slit
  • Butter - 2 tablespoons
  • Cream - 2 tablespoons
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Fresh coriander - for garnish
  • Oil - for frying

Steps

  1. Soak the black urad dal and red kidney beans in water for at least 8 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain and rinse the soaked dal and beans, then cook them in a pressure cooker with 4 cups of water for about 15-20 minutes until soft.
  3. In a pan, heat butter and a little oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  4. Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown. Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and green chili, cooking for another minute.
  5. Add the pureed tomato and cook for 5-7 minutes until the oil separates from the mixture.
  6. Add the cooked dal and beans to the pan, along with salt and garam masala. Mix well and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
  7. Stir in the cream for extra richness, mixing thoroughly.
  8. Once the daal is creamy and well combined, spread it out on a plate to cool slightly.
  9. Heat oil in a shallow frying pan over medium heat. Take small portions of the daal mixture and shape them into patties.
  10. Fry each patty until golden brown and crispy on both sides. Drain on paper towels.
  11. Garnish with fresh coriander before serving.
