- Black urad dal - 100 grams
- Red kidney beans - 50 grams
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Tomato - 1 medium, pureed
- Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
- Green chili - 1, slit
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
- Cream - 2 tablespoons
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Fresh coriander - for garnish
- Oil - for frying
Steps
- Soak the black urad dal and red kidney beans in water for at least 8 hours or overnight.
- Drain and rinse the soaked dal and beans, then cook them in a pressure cooker with 4 cups of water for about 15-20 minutes until soft.
- In a pan, heat butter and a little oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown. Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and green chili, cooking for another minute.
- Add the pureed tomato and cook for 5-7 minutes until the oil separates from the mixture.
- Add the cooked dal and beans to the pan, along with salt and garam masala. Mix well and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
- Stir in the cream for extra richness, mixing thoroughly.
- Once the daal is creamy and well combined, spread it out on a plate to cool slightly.
- Heat oil in a shallow frying pan over medium heat. Take small portions of the daal mixture and shape them into patties.
- Fry each patty until golden brown and crispy on both sides. Drain on paper towels.
- Garnish with fresh coriander before serving.
