Ingredients

  • Split red lentils - 150 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 inch, grated
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon (to taste)
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Rice flour - 2 tablespoons (for binding)
  • Oil - for shallow frying

Steps

  1. Rinse the split red lentils under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak them in water for 30 minutes.
  2. Drain the lentils and place them in a blender or food processor. Blend until you achieve a coarse paste, adding a little water if necessary.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the lentil paste with chopped onion, minced garlic, grated ginger, green chili, cilantro, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  4. Add the rice flour to the lentil mixture to help bind the kebabs, and mix until uniform.
  5. Heat oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Shape the lentil mixture into small patties or kebabs.
  6. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the kebabs in the skillet, frying them for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove the kebabs and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  8. Serve the daal kebabs hot with mint chutney or a side salad.
