Ingredients

  • Split yellow moong dal - 1 cup
  • Water - 1.5 cups (for soaking and blending)
  • Green chili - 1 (finely chopped)
  • Ginger - 1 tsp (grated)
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - 2 tbsp (for cooking)
  • Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp (chopped, for garnish)

Steps

  1. Rinse the split yellow moong dal under cold water and soak it in 1 cup of water for about 2 hours.
  2. After soaking, drain the dal and transfer it to a blender. Add 1/2 cup of fresh water, green chili, ginger, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, and salt, then blend until smooth and pourable.
  3. Heat a non-stick skillet or tawa over medium heat and add about 1/2 tablespoon of oil.
  4. Pour a ladleful of the batter onto the skillet, spreading it into a thin circle. Cook for about 2-3 minutes or until the edges start to lift.
  5. Drizzle a little oil around the edges and on top, then flip the chilla and cook for another 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Repeat the process with the remaining batter, adding more oil as needed. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves before serving.
  7. Serve hot with green chutney or a side of fresh vegetables.
