Ingredients

  • Cooked lentils (toor dal) - 1 cup
  • Cooked basmati rice - 1 cup
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Fresh coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons (for frying)

Steps

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked lentils and cooked basmati rice. Mash them lightly with a fork until just combined.
  2. Add the chopped onion, green chili, ginger, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, garam masala, chopped coriander, and salt to the mixture. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  3. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat.
  4. Once the oil is hot, take a portion of the mixture and shape it into small patties or fritters.
  5. Carefully place the patties in the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Remove the fritters from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  7. Serve hot with yogurt or chutney as a side dish.
