  • Tomato - 1 medium (finely chopped)
  • Green chili - 1 (finely chopped, adjust to taste)
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon (grated)
  • Garlic - 2 cloves (minced)
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons (chopped)
  • Chaat masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Bread crumbs - 4 tablespoons
  • Burger buns - 2 (whole wheat or regular)
  • Lettuce leaves - 2
  • Tomato slices - 4
  • Cucumber slices - 4
  • Vegan mayonnaise - 2 tablespoons
  • Oil - for shallow frying

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, mash the cooked chickpeas with a fork or potato masher, leaving some chunks for texture.
  2. Add the chopped onions, tomatoes, green chili, ginger, garlic, cilantro, chaat masala, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt to the mashed chickpeas.
  3. Mix the ingredients well and form the mixture into two equal-sized patties.
  4. Coat the patties with bread crumbs for extra texture.
  5. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and shallow fry the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  6. While the patties are frying, toast the burger buns in the same pan until slightly crispy.
  7. Assemble the burger by spreading vegan mayonnaise on the bottom half of the bun, placing the lettuce, the chickpea patty, tomato, and cucumber slices on top, and then covering it with the top half of the bun.
  8. Serve immediately with your favorite chutney or sauce.
