- Green chili - 1, finely chopped
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Oil - 2 tablespoons
- Fresh coriander - a handful, chopped
- Burger buns - 2
- Lettuce leaves - 2
- Sliced tomato - 1 small
- Sliced cucumber - 1 small
- Chutney (optional) - as required
Steps
- Soak the chickpeas overnight in water. Drain and rinse them before cooking.
- In a pressure cooker, add soaked chickpeas, 4 cups of water, and salt. Cook for about 15-20 minutes until soft. Drain and set aside.
- In a pan, heat oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
- Add grated ginger, minced garlic, and chopped green chili. Sauté for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften. Then add cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and turmeric powder. Mix well and cook for 5 minutes.
- Add the cooked chickpeas to the pan and mash them slightly with a fork or potato masher. Cook for another 5 minutes to let the flavors meld. Stir in the chopped coriander and remove from heat.
- In a separate pan, lightly toast the burger buns until golden.
- Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by a generous portion of the chickpea mixture, sliced tomato, and cucumber. Add chutney if desired, and cover with the top half of the bun.
- Serve warm with extra chutney or salad on the side.
