Ingredients

  • Onion (finely chopped) - 1 medium
  • Tomato (chopped) - 1 medium
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Green chili (finely chopped) - 1 small
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Fresh cilantro (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Oil - 1 tablespoon
  • All-purpose flour - 150 grams
  • Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Yogurt - 50 grams
  • Water - as needed
  • Butter (melted) - 1 tablespoon for brushing

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a pan, heat the oil over medium heat and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and green chili; cook for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Stir in the chopped tomato, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes soften.
  5. Add the cooked chickpeas and mix well. Sprinkle garam masala and chopped cilantro, and cook for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  6. In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Add yogurt and mix well. Gradually add water to form a soft dough. Knead for a few minutes until smooth.
  7. Roll out the dough into two equal-sized circles (about 5-6 inches in diameter).
  8. Place half of the chickpea mixture on one half of each dough circle, fold over, and seal the edges.
  9. Place the filled dough on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with melted butter.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
  11. Remove from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, then serve hot with yogurt or chutney.
