Ingredients
- cooked chickpeas - 200 grams
- potato (boiled and mashed) - 100 grams
- onion (finely chopped) - 1 small
- green chili (finely chopped) - 1
- ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
- coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- fresh coriander leaves (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
- salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- black pepper powder - 1/4 teaspoon
- bread crumbs - 4 tablespoons
- oil (for frying) - 2 tablespoons
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, mash the cooked chickpeas using a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth.
- Add the boiled and mashed potato, finely chopped onion, green chili, grated ginger, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, chopped coriander leaves, salt, and black pepper to the mashed chickpeas. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.
- Add the bread crumbs to the mixture and mix until the mixture holds together. If it's too wet, add more bread crumbs as needed.
- Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into round patties or tikki.
- Heat oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the chickpea tikkis to the pan, making sure not to overcrowd.
- Fry the tikkis for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the tikkis from the pan and place them on paper towels to absorb excess oil. Serve hot with mint chutney or yogurt dip.
