- Canned chickpeas - 400 grams, drained and rinsed
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Tomato - 1 medium, diced
- Bell pepper (any color) - 1 small, diced
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 inch, grated
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
- Cilantro (fresh) - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
- Bread crumbs - 1/2 cup
- Grated cheese (optional) - 1/4 cup
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add the chopped onion, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
- Stir in the diced tomato and bell pepper, cooking until softened.
- Add the drained chickpeas, turmeric, garam masala, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in chopped cilantro.
- Transfer the chickpea mixture to a baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Sprinkle bread crumbs on top for a crunchy texture, and add grated cheese if using.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
