- Canned chickpeas - 400 grams, drained and rinsed
- Potato - 150 grams, boiled and mashed
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Green chili - 1, finely chopped
- Cilantro (fresh coriander) - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon (to taste)
- Rice flour - 2 tablespoons (for binding)
- Oil - 3 tablespoons (for frying)
Steps
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained chickpeas, boiled and mashed potato, chopped onion, grated ginger, chopped green chili, and chopped cilantro.
- Add the cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt to the mixture. Mix well until all ingredients are well combined.
- Add the rice flour to the mixture to help bind the ingredients together. Adjust the quantity if needed to achieve a firm consistency.
- Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape each portion into a flat round patty (tikki).
- Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the patties in the pan, ensuring not to overcrowd.
- Fry the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Add the remaining oil as needed for frying the rest of the patties. Serve hot with your choice of chutney or salad.
