Ingredients

  • Canned chickpeas - 400 grams, drained and rinsed
  • Potato - 150 grams, boiled and mashed
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Cilantro (fresh coriander) - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon (to taste)
  • Rice flour - 2 tablespoons (for binding)
  • Oil - 3 tablespoons (for frying)

Steps

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained chickpeas, boiled and mashed potato, chopped onion, grated ginger, chopped green chili, and chopped cilantro.
  2. Add the cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt to the mixture. Mix well until all ingredients are well combined.
  3. Add the rice flour to the mixture to help bind the ingredients together. Adjust the quantity if needed to achieve a firm consistency.
  4. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape each portion into a flat round patty (tikki).
  5. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the patties in the pan, ensuring not to overcrowd.
  6. Fry the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Add the remaining oil as needed for frying the rest of the patties. Serve hot with your choice of chutney or salad.
