Ingredients
- Chana Dal (split chickpeas) - 1 cup (200g)
- Water - 1 cup (250ml)
- Onion (finely chopped) - 1 small
- Green chili (finely chopped) - 1 small
- Ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander leaves (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon (or to taste)
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon (for greasing)
Steps
- Soak the chana dal in water for at least 4 hours or overnight. Drain and rinse well.
- In a blender, combine the soaked chana dal and 1 cup of water. Blend until you have a smooth batter.
- In a mixing bowl, add the blended batter, chopped onion, green chili, ginger, coriander leaves, cumin powder, turmeric powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until combined.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper and lightly grease it with olive oil.
- Pour half of the batter onto the prepared baking tray and spread it evenly to form a pancake shape.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the top is firm.
- Remove from the oven, flip the cheela, and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until the other side is golden brown.
- Once done, remove from the oven, cut into wedges, and serve hot with chutney or yogurt.
