Ingredients

  • Chana dal - 100 grams
  • Water - 500 ml
  • Cucumber - 1 medium, diced
  • Tomato - 1 medium, diced
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Chaat masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black salt - to taste
  • Sev (crispy noodles) - for garnish
  • Pomegranate seeds - 2 tablespoons (optional)

Steps

  1. Rinse the chana dal under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a pot, bring the water to a boil and add the rinsed chana dal. Cook on medium heat for about 20-25 minutes or until the dal is tender but not mushy.
  3. Once cooked, drain the chana dal and let it cool for a few minutes.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked chana dal with diced cucumber, tomato, onion, green chili, and coriander leaves.
  5. Add lemon juice, chaat masala, cumin powder, salt, and black salt to the mixture. Toss everything gently to combine.
  6. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  7. Serve the chana dal chaat in bowls, garnished with sev and pomegranate seeds if desired.
