Ingredients

  • Cooked chickpeas - 1 cup (240g)
  • Red onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Tomato - 1 medium, diced
  • Cucumber - 1 small, diced
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Cilantro (coriander leaves) - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
  • Chaat masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Roasted cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black salt - a pinch
  • Pomegranate seeds - 2 tablespoons (optional)
  • Sev (crispy noodles) - for garnish (optional)

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked chickpeas, chopped red onion, diced tomato, diced cucumber, and finely chopped green chili.
  2. Add the chopped cilantro, lemon juice, chaat masala, roasted cumin powder, salt, and black salt to the bowl.
  3. Mix all the ingredients well until evenly coated with the spices and lemon juice.
  4. Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary. If using, gently fold in the pomegranate seeds.
  5. Let the chaat sit for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  6. Serve in bowls, garnished with sev on top for added crunch.
