- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Green chili - 1, finely chopped (adjust for spice)
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon (or to taste)
- Breadcrumbs - 1/4 cup
- Fresh coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Oil - for frying
- Burger buns - 2
- Lettuce leaves - 2
- Tomato - 1 medium, sliced
- Cucumber - 1 small, sliced
- Green chutney - for serving
- Tamatar chutney - for serving (optional)
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, mash the cooked chickpeas with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth but still slightly chunky.
- Add the chopped onion, grated ginger, minced garlic, green chili, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, salt, breadcrumbs, chopped coriander leaves, and lemon juice. Mix until well combined.
- Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into burger patties.
- Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, gently place the patties in the pan and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- While the patties are cooking, prepare the burger buns by toasting them lightly if desired.
- Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by the cooked chickpea patty, sliced tomato, and cucumber. Add green chutney on top and close with the bun lid.
- Serve immediately with additional chutney on the side.
