Ingredients

  • Rice flour - 150 grams
  • Urad dal flour - 50 grams
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Ajwain (carom seeds) - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Water - 100-150 ml
  • Oil - for deep frying

Steps

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine rice flour, urad dal flour, sesame seeds, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and ajwain.
  2. Gradually add water to the dry ingredients, mixing until a smooth and pliable dough forms. The dough should not be too sticky or dry.
  3. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  4. Using a chakli maker or piping bag fitted with a star nozzle, fill it with the dough.
  5. When the oil is hot, carefully squeeze the dough into circular shapes directly into the oil, forming spirals.
  6. Fry the chaklis in batches until they turn golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch.
  7. Remove the fried chaklis with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  8. Allow them to cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
