  • Water - 500 ml
  • Black tea leaves - 2 teaspoons
  • Milk - 250 ml
  • Sugar - 2 teaspoons (adjust to taste)
  • Fresh ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Green cardamom pods - 4, crushed
  • Cinnamon stick - 1 small piece
  • Cloves - 2
  • Black peppercorns - 2

Steps

  1. In a saucepan, bring 500 ml of water to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Add the crushed cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, cloves, and black peppercorns to the boiling water.
  3. Let the spices simmer for about 5 minutes to infuse their flavors.
  4. Add the grated ginger and black tea leaves to the saucepan, and let it boil for another 2-3 minutes.
  5. Pour in the milk and sugar, stirring well to combine, and bring the mixture back to a gentle boil.
  6. Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat and let it simmer for another 2 minutes.
  7. Strain the chai into cups or mugs, discarding the spices and tea leaves.
