Ingredients

  • Cabbage - 200 grams, finely shredded
  • Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Urad dal (split black gram) - 1 tablespoon
  • Green chili - 1, slit
  • Curry leaves - 10 leaves
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Coconut - 2 tablespoons, grated
  • Oil - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add urad dal and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Stir in the slit green chili and curry leaves, cooking for another minute.
  5. Add the finely shredded cabbage and turmeric powder, mixing well.
  6. Season with salt and cover the pan. Cook for about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in the grated coconut.
  8. Serve hot as a side dish with rice or roti.
