Ingredients
- Basmati rice - 200 grams
- Chicken (bone-in pieces) - 300 grams
- Yogurt - 100 grams
- Onion (sliced) - 1 large
- Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
- Potatoes (peeled and halved) - 2 medium
- Boiled eggs - 2
- Biryani masala - 2 teaspoons
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
- Green chilies (slit) - 2
- Coriander leaves (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
- Mint leaves (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
- Cooking oil - 3 tablespoons
- Salt - to taste
- Water - 500 ml
Steps
- Soak the basmati rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain and set aside.
- In a bowl, mix the chicken pieces with yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, biryani masala, and salt. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- In a large pot, heat the cooking oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and fry until golden brown. Remove half for garnishing later.
- Add the marinated chicken to the pot and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the chicken is browned.
- Add the halved potatoes and green chilies to the pot. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Pour in 500 ml of water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, add the drained rice and stir gently.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid, and cook for 20-25 minutes or until the rice is cooked and water is absorbed.
- Once done, turn off the heat and let it rest for 10 minutes. Fluff the biryani with a fork.
- Garnish the biryani with the fried onions, chopped coriander, mint leaves, and boiled eggs before serving.
