Ingredients
- Whole wheat flour - 100 grams
- Ghee - 30 grams
- Chana dal - 50 grams
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
- Garlic - 1 tablespoon, minced
- Green chili - 1, finely chopped
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Water - 500 ml
- Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish
Steps
- Soak the chana dal in water for 2-3 hours, then drain.
- In a pan, heat 1 tablespoon of ghee and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the soaked chana dal, ginger, garlic, green chili, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until fragrant.
- Add 200 ml of water to the mixture and cook until the chana dal is soft and mushy. Blend this mixture into a smooth paste and set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour and 2 tablespoons of ghee. Mix in enough water to form a soft dough. Divide the dough into small balls (about the size of a golf ball).
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Place the dough balls on a baking tray and bake for about 20-25 minutes until golden brown, turning halfway through.
- In a pot, bring 300 ml of water to a boil. Add the blended chana dal mixture and stir well. Simmer for 10 minutes, adjusting the consistency with more water if needed.
- Once the littis are ready, break them into halves and add them to the soup. Let them soak for a few minutes before serving.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
