Ingredients

  • Whole wheat flour - 100 grams
  • Ghee - 30 grams
  • Chana dal - 50 grams
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
  • Garlic - 1 tablespoon, minced
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Water - 500 ml
  • Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish

Steps

  1. Soak the chana dal in water for 2-3 hours, then drain.
  2. In a pan, heat 1 tablespoon of ghee and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the soaked chana dal, ginger, garlic, green chili, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add 200 ml of water to the mixture and cook until the chana dal is soft and mushy. Blend this mixture into a smooth paste and set aside.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour and 2 tablespoons of ghee. Mix in enough water to form a soft dough. Divide the dough into small balls (about the size of a golf ball).
  5. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Place the dough balls on a baking tray and bake for about 20-25 minutes until golden brown, turning halfway through.
  6. In a pot, bring 300 ml of water to a boil. Add the blended chana dal mixture and stir well. Simmer for 10 minutes, adjusting the consistency with more water if needed.
  7. Once the littis are ready, break them into halves and add them to the soup. Let them soak for a few minutes before serving.
  8. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
