Ingredients
- Flattened rice (chura) - 1 cup
- Chickpea flour (besan) - 1/2 cup
- Potato - 1 medium, grated
- Onion - 1 small, thinly sliced
- Carrot - 1 small, grated
- Green chili - 1, finely chopped
- Coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Water - as needed
- Oil - for deep frying
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flattened rice (chura), chickpea flour (besan), grated potato, sliced onion, grated carrot, chopped green chili, and chopped coriander leaves.
- Add cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt to the mixture. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
- Gradually add water to the mixture to form a thick batter that can hold its shape but is not too runny.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
- Once the oil is hot, carefully drop spoonfuls of the batter into the oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
- Fry the pakoras until they turn golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes on each side.
- Remove the pakoras with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Serve hot with green chutney or ketchup.
