- Hilsa fish - 300 grams
- Mustard seeds - 2 tablespoons
- Poppy seeds - 1 tablespoon
- Green chilies - 2
- Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Mustard oil - 2 tablespoons
- Flattened rice (Chura) - 1 cup
- Onion - 1 medium, thinly sliced
- Coriander leaves - for garnish
Steps
- Soak the mustard seeds and poppy seeds in water for 30 minutes, then drain.
- In a blender, combine the soaked mustard seeds, poppy seeds, green chilies, turmeric powder, and salt to make a smooth paste.
- Marinate the Hilsa fish pieces in the mustard-poppy paste for 15 minutes.
- Heat mustard oil in a pan until smoking, then reduce the heat and add the marinated fish pieces carefully.
- Fry the fish for about 3-4 minutes on each side until they are cooked through and golden brown.
- In another pan, lightly toast the flattened rice on low heat for 2-3 minutes until warm and crispy, then set aside.
- In the same pan, add sliced onions and sauté until they are translucent.
- Combine the toasted flattened rice with sautéed onions and mix well.
- Serve the crispy chura topped with the mustard fish and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
